NFL WEEK 9 REVIEW

Writer: Travis HerzingTravis Herzing

Well, Week 9 wasn't as bad as Week 8. That's the good news. The bad news is that we continued our losing roster builds. I decided to build a lineup with the idea of #PlayTheBestPlays this week as opposed to the standard stacking with bring back option. It did not work out this week. But, we will get to all that below.

For Week 9, I played on DraftKings. Let's dive in.

Contest: NFL $100K Stiff Arm (Single Entry)

Buy-In: $555

1st Place Payout: $15,000

Min-Cash: $1,000

Result: 134th Place.

QB: Josh Allen. I think Allen is the best QB in the NFL and should win multiple MVP awards in his career. He is like Big Ben 2.0 but on steroids (not literally). He can throw and run and he does both of these at ease. Allen has been averaging 30 DK points a week. Yes, you read that correct, AVERAGING. Most players never see 30 DK points and if they do, it may be once or twice a season. In a spot against a rival Jets team, I expected Allen to continue the 30 point trend. It was pretty close as he scored 26.80 DK points without throwing a touchdown. The reason he scored this high was because he rushed 2 of them in. Allen ended the game with only 205 passing yards, 0 TD's passing but 86 rushing yards with 2 rushing TD's. He did throw 2 pretty awful INT's. At Allen's $8,500 salary, 26 points isn't enough. We needed 35-40 from Allen this week.

RB1: Austin Ekeler. This is another guy who just puts up massive amounts of points every week. He is involved in the passing game heavily as well as the main RB that the Chargers give the ball to. Ekeler is expensive though so we always need a big game from him. I'm convinced the Chargers are ass. They were losing for the majority of this game against the Falcons and barely pulled off a win in the last few seoncds of the game. Ekeler only rushed for 47 yards, had 1 TD on the ground, and lost a fumble. However, Ekeler did catch 7 balls, 1 of which was a TD. He finished the game with 25.10 DK points. We need more from a guy whose salary is $8,800.

RB2: Travis Etienne Jr. The rookie is finally getting his chance to shine and he isn't wasting the opportunity. The Jaguars traded James Robinson last week to the Jets. What does this mean? It means Etienne will get the majority of the volume. Etienne was my highest scoring player this week at 29.60 DK points as he had 109 rushing yards, 2 TD's, and 2 catches for 17 yards. They are using him like Derrick Henry giving him 25+ carries a game. As a fantasy player, we love to see that. Smash.

WR1: Amon-Ra St. Brown. I've drafted the Sun God a few times this season. Sadly, each time I've rostered him, he's performed poorly. Last season, he dominated as the Lions #1 WR. This season isn't like last. Against GB, I expected the Lions to score some points and usually when they do, the Sun God is involved. This week he ended with only 4 catches for 55 yards and no touchdowns for 9.50 DK points.

WR2: Kalif Raymond. This was another Detroit WR that I liked his week. Detroit is banged up and I expected Raymond to be on the other side of the Sun God this week as everyone else was hurt. He was very cheap and fitting him in helped me get up to Ekeler and Allen. The problem here was that Detroit barely beat GB 15-9 and Raymond didn't contribute much. He caught 3 balls for 17 yards and only 4.70 DK points.

WR3: Tyquan Thornton. My punt play of the week at just $3,300 was Thornton for New England. This is a guy who can break a long one but his volume hasn't really been there. Not to mention, Mac Jones has been dog water. This punt play wasn't expected to get me much but I was hoping for MAYBE 8-10 DK points. This jackass ended the game with only 1 catch for 5 fucking yards and 1.50 DK points. Absolute ASS performance. I likely will not roster him again.

TE: Foster Moreau. This isn't the first time we rostered Moreau and since Waller is a pussy, it likely won't be the last. Moreau is out on the field for the majority of David Carr's passes but Carr only looks at Adams and the Raiders suck. I hate tight end. If you don't have Kelce, you never feel comfortable with the position. Moreau ended the game with 2 catches for 42 yards and a fumble for 5.40 DK points. Sigh.

FLEX: Rhamondre Stevenson. This is the guy in New England. With Harris ruled out another week, Stevenson was in line for all the carries and all the goal line work this week. He has consistently scored 20+ DK points over the last few weeks so he was a lock play for me this week. Sometimes when things just go wrong with your team, they ALL go wrong. Stevenson ended the game with only 60 yards rushing, 1 TD, and 3 catches for 16 DK points. I'd like to see more production out of him than that performance this week.

DEFENSE: Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I actually put some thought into defense this week. I usually don't have the salary to fit in a defense more than $2,500 but this week I rostered the Bucs at $3,100. Stafford and the Rams haven't been able to get anything going so far this year. The Bucs defense isn't terrible. This turned out to be an OK pick as they had 4 sacks and only gave up 13 points for 8 DK points.

Results: 134th place out of 200 for $0.

I can't seem to pick the right players lately. I haven't cashed since Week 4 making this the 5th straight week making losing fantasy lineups. I actually liked this lineup when I submitted it this weekend. I should have known that when I like a lineup, it performs terribly. Allen, Ekeler, and Etienne were my top scorers of the week. The rest sucked hind tit. I finished the week with 126.60 points. A min-cash needed 156.68.

I am going to change things up a little for Week 10. Since we haven't cashed since Week 4, I'm not going to play a tournament next week. I'm going to play a high stakes 50/50. How this works is a specific number of people get into a contest for a fixed price. Half of the entries make the same amount of money and the other half get zero. We need to get back to winning so hoepfully I can make a lineup this week that will be able to beat half of the field. Time will tell.

Well, hell. C'mon Hal Pfuftig. We want to see you winning some money. The girls liked Joe Mixon this past Sunday, but I didn't give them any money to play with, so they played with each other. I guess we could have won a pile. 5 touchdowns has to be worth something. The Steelers are OFFICIALLY (as you would say) dog water, or Ass. They had their upcoming loss to the Bengals switched from prime time to day time by the NFL. I'm still high on Mitch Pickett. We don't understand the game you're playing this coming week, but we wish you good luck. We have faith that you can finish in the 51st percentile or higher. Here we go,…
